Sometimes I wake up screaming, too.

This is from Tom Horacek’s new book “All We Ever Do Is Talk About Wood.”
The Vancouver artist’s first book, it’s a collection of single panel gags that seem to act as a celebration of pain, suffering, and life’s slow march to the grave. But the bitterness is sweetened by Horacek’s too-cute renderings. His round-headed characters not only evoke images of Charles Schulz’s Charlie Brown, but also the Peanuts-creator’s philosophy that “happiness isn’t funny.”
An eclectic concoction, making the serious seem comical and vice-versa. Poking holes in our comfort zones so we re-assess reality. This is the type of humour I like, Dark and Deep. Interesting.

Japanese Lunch Art – Album Covers

How cool is this? This is called Bento Art in Japan where the lunch can be made to resemble art of all forms, these are album covers (Duh!). I would have loved to have my lunch looking like this when I was back in school. But, then again, what is the lunch made of?

The World is Not Enough, Dubai Goes After the Universe
by Muhammad on January 26, 2008

Dubai’s premier property development company, Nakheel has just completed its ambitious project to build “The World” islands, but not content, their next offshore development project plans to take over ““The Universe.” This will feature man-made islands in the shape of the Sun, Moon, with the planets in between. It’s controversial because environmentalists say the developments are wreaking havoc on marine life and the coral reefs, although Nakheel claims that they will invest money to maintain sustainable marine development.
I’m just wondering where the development will stop.
The Worlds Loneliest Prada Store.

this is ‘prada marfa’, an unusual building located in the desert near marfa, texas on an otherwise desolate stretch of highway 90. behind the glass a selection of shoes and bags, presumably more expensive than the structure itself, have sat untouched since 2005.
very few people have ever been inside prada marfa and money has never been handed over inside the premises as it’s actually a spooky piece of art / clever promotional stunt erected by michael elmgreen and ingar dragset, 2 berlin artists seemingly intent on playing with the public’s minds.
from the artists…
‘..the combination of a vast, open desert landscape in an un-populated area and a luxury goods store is completely unthinkable. nature suits fashion as a visual backdrop, as one often sees in advertisement. the minimal, corporate prada design and the desolate surrounding ranch land make a great impression together, but simultaneously the two forces also render each other useless.’

Life on Mars???
A Chinese website is claiming to have found photographic proof of aliens on Mars. The picture, found after thoroughly analyzing photos taken by NASA’S Mars Exploration Rover Spirit, seems to show a figure walking across the Martian landscape.
According to The Daily Mail, the internet has been “abuzz” with speculation as to what this may or may not be. Cries of “Proof!”, “Shopped!”, “Optical illusion!”, and “Bigfoot!” have been heard, echoing across the tubes. A larger, 43MB panoramic version can be found here.
Life on Mars? Amazing photos from Nasa probe reveal mystery figure on Red Planet [Daily Mail]

UPDATE: But what is it? Just a rock, astronomers say.
It’s hard enough to accurately recognize figures and faces across the room. Mars, depending on when you measure it, is about 35 million miles away. The best telescopes aren’t of much help in determining surface features, and that’s why NASA sent robots with cameras to Mars.
The reason many people see a figure on the Martian landscape is the same reason that people see faces in clouds, Rorschach blots, and coffee stains. This phenomenon, called pareidolia, is well known in psychology, and it is the cause of many supposedly mysterious and miraculous events (including the famous “Jesus in the Tortilla”). Examples are all around us; in fact if you have a New Hampshire state quarter, you have pareidolia in your pocket or purse (take a look).

Hello, Tech support? I need two goats…

KATHMANDU - Officials at Nepal’s state-run airline have sacrificed two goats to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god, following technical problems with one of its Boeing 757 aircraft, the carrier said Tuesday.
The goats were sacrificed in front of the troublesome aircraft Sunday at Nepal’s only international airport in Kathmandu in accordance with Hindu traditions, an official said.
It is common in Nepal to sacrifice animals like goats and buffaloes to appease different Hindu deities.
Well that’s a novel way to solve problems… I wonder what they’ll do when Petrol runs out. They probably have a Hindu cleric on staff at the Technical support centre for aeroplanes and other support oriented services, just in case reading the manual doesn’t work :P
