Sneek Peak: Tim Burton’s Remake of Alice in Wonderland

by on June 25, 2009

Another one of my ‘most awaited’ remakes of all time. I remember growing up with Alice in Wonderland as a story and no doubt later recalling how that particular story had shaped my perception and shaped my life. I felt the same way when I first saw the Matrix. It had the effect of a crow-bar prying open my mind to new possibilities and opportunities. I loved it.

And here it is again… so far only a few pics of the movie have been released and the cast looks brilliant, with a few staples from the Tim Burton toolbox. Namely, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts. The nice touch is Anne Hathaway as the White Queen.

The movie is set to release on 5 March 2010.
Here’s an idea of what it’s going to look like…

Alice in the Caterpillar’s Garden

Johnny Depp – The Mad Hatter

Helena Bonham Carter – The Queen of Hearts

Anne Hathaway – The White Queen

I remember posting before on Sarah Michelle Gellar working on creating the movie version of that AWESOME game, American McGee’s Alice. I don’t
know when that will be released, but one at a time… right now I’m looking forward to Tim Burton’s recreation. I wonder who’s playing Alice???

Live Blogging the Cape Town Good Food & Wine Show

in Uncategorized

Okay, so I’m not that interested inthe Wine aspect, but here I am taking advantage of the Telkom Hotspot inthe middle of the Cape Town International Convention Centre and live blogging only the interesting aspects of what I find here at the show.  So far the most interesting things I’ve come across which will achieve their own specific blog posts are the National Barista Championships, which were brilliant, the finals arebeing held today.  Secondly I’ll be covering a Social Networking Site specifically for South African Foodies and lastly a recent entrant into the “espresso” market, albeit a very different and healthy take on it, called Red Espresso (those who frequent Woolworths will know what I am talking about.

So watch out for the next 2-3 posts on Blogging the 2008 Cape Town Good Food & Wine Show, Live :)

Drag Racing in Dubai!

Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous in the land of Decadence. Crazy Cars. Must’ve been really fun.

Compared to the Durban Drag Racing Scene where all you see is Blinged-out Toyota’s, Mini’s, VW Golf’s and Honda Civics… This is Crazy. Also this looks legitimate and professionally run, South African drag racing often involves running from the cops.

Magnify.net Introduces Live Posting of Relevant Video to Blogs

by on May 14, 2008
in Social Media

This is an amazing development by Magnify.net, what they’ve done is integrated their site’s functions into MovableType and WordPress Platforms where you can integrate relevant video’s or photo’s straight into your post on any topic you desire.

How it works is that in your WordPress/MovableType post page, you click a little orange button (which gets integrated via your plugins) and a search box appears… you type in a search term and out pops various videos from Youtube, Google Video, etc. for you to choose from and you can simply then just add it into your blog post.

Simple, Effective, Amazing… and your blog readers will appreciate the relevant media content.

Life on Mars???

A Chinese website is claiming to have found photographic proof of aliens on Mars. The picture, found after thoroughly analyzing photos taken by NASA’S Mars Exploration Rover Spirit, seems to show a figure walking across the Martian landscape.

According to The Daily Mail, the internet has been “abuzz” with speculation as to what this may or may not be. Cries of “Proof!”, “Shopped!”, “Optical illusion!”, and “Bigfoot!” have been heard, echoing across the tubes. A larger, 43MB panoramic version can be found here.

UPDATE: But what is it? Just a rock, astronomers say.

It’s hard enough to accurately recognize figures and faces across the room. Mars, depending on when you measure it, is about 35 million miles away. The best telescopes aren’t of much help in determining surface features, and that’s why NASA sent robots with cameras to Mars.

The reason many people see a figure on the Martian landscape is the same reason that people see faces in clouds, Rorschach blots, and coffee stains. This phenomenon, called pareidolia, is well known in psychology, and it is the cause of many supposedly mysterious and miraculous events (including the famous “Jesus in the Tortilla”). Examples are all around us; in fact if you have a New Hampshire state quarter, you have pareidolia in your pocket or purse (take a look).

Tricks that enable you to take Secret Pictures…

Xlg Secret Pictures
Spy camera tricks from Popular Science 1934-

TRICKS used by press photographers and detectives come
in handy when it is desired to snap imposed photographs of friends or
members of the family. For such pictures photographers usually use
tiny, easily concealed cameras. Despite their size, these midget
cameras are surprisingly fast and accurate, and their wide angle lenses
make the use of a range finder unnecessary. One of the commoner ways of
screening a camera from the intended subject is to cover it with a
handkerchief until the trigger is released. Occasionally the camera is
carried in a vest pocket with the lens shielded by the wearer’s coat.

Cape Town Free Culture Tour

Wednesday 18 April – Friday 20 April 2007

Wikipedia Founder, Jimmy Wales and Creative Commons CEO, Larry Lessig will be in South Africa for a host of festivities to celebrate digital freedom in the country. Speaking at a number of events in Cape Town, Wales and Lessig will be encouraging local support of institutions like iCommons, the University of the Western Cape, the University of Cape Town and the Internet Society of South Africa in their efforts towards developing a culture of freedom on the local internet.

Awesome, eh? Check out the full schedule of events at iCommons.org.

And just to brag a bit, I had supper with Lawrence Lessig (CC) and Ethan Zuckerman (Global Voices) while I was in Doha, blogging Al-Jazeera’s 3rd Annual Media Forum. Honestly, these guys were next level when it comes to the thinking of Where the Internet is and where it’s headed, especially in terms of the evolution of Ideas and Culture in the New Media era. Wow.

Left to Right: Me, Lawrence and Ethan. It was at this eclectic Lebanese restaurant, called Assaha, if you’re in Doha, I recommend it!

Alpacone’s Sunburnt Marshmallows.

by on November 20, 2006
in Life

I freakin hate Monday’s. I’m all bug-eyed, the coffee’s just not good enough, the work’s making me nauseus. Okay, enough complaining… the point of this post is the Weekend, why anyone else would care about my weekend I don’t know… but here it is.

Marshmallow Braai - Saturday NightSaturday was the usual shopping run-around, the only worthwhile trip I remember was the library. any how Saturday night was Braai- night at Aunt-in-Law’s place ‘cos it was once in a long time that the entire family was there.

One of the boys just came back from a trip to Rome, Italy, I was so jealous when he was taking us through the details of the trip, now I really want to visit the place. Also, one ofthe other bro’s is going on course with his company for training.. and get this.. he’s going to Chicago, London, Prague and Krakow… Lucky Bastard… I’d like a trip to check out the Big Windy City, Big Ben and the place famous for suicidal novelists. But it was all good and it all ended with Barbecued (Braai-ed in Afrikaans) Marshmallows dipped in Fresh Cream. YuM!

Sunday had its typical brilliance of relaxation… Big Family breakfast, and after… taking advantaAl Pacone's at Wilson's Wharfge of the Ever-evasive Sunshine, went to the beach for about an hour and a half, chilled at home for a while and decided to go the wharf just for a walk, and whatever with the wife… had some really good Falafel and I just loved the name of the Ice cream place… Al Pacones! Haha… Now you can see where my dire need to diet is coming from… too much of a good thing yadda yadda yadda.

And then the after-effects hit me on Monday morning when a hot shower alerts me to the fact that I was sunburnt (eina!) and also had bags under my eyes ‘cos I spent the night watching L4yer Cake cos I couldn’t sleep for some odd reason. The movie was cool though, something about how you just can’t escape your fate, you will reap what you sow… that and also that the Drug trade is like Hotel California “You can check-out any time you like, But you can never leave!” :)

Peace,

M.
