Promotional Poster for the movie parodying Obama’s famous Campaign Poster
One thing you have to admit… British Comedy has the uncanny ability to force the laughter out of you. With its heavily-laden sarcasm loaded with metaphors and similes and utterly, utterly offensive bad language. Some of it will make you cringe while you’re splitting your sides.
‘In The Loop’ is one of those comedies you really must watch. It’s a political satire split halfway between America and the UK and deals with different political relationships and the ‘politics’ behind them. It also puts politics as a heavy-handed one-up-manship between countries (USA and UK) and within the governments of those countries. Now this all sounds very serious but look at only two aspects… the relationships and comedy. These are the classic hallmarks of great comedy. Pissed off Brits taking the mick out of each other doesn’t fail to please either.
I loved the movie and I highly recommend it.
To get the nitty gritties out of the way (director, plot, etc.)… here’s the excerpt from Wikipedia…
In the Loop is a feature film directed by Armando Iannucci. It is an spinoff from the BBC TV series The Thick of It satirising Anglo-American politics in the 21st century. The film was released on 17 April 2009 in the United Kingdom.

The plot follows government officials and advisers in their behind-the-scenes efforts either to promote the war or prevent it. It stars Tom Hollander, James Gandolfini, Chris Addison, Peter Capaldi, Anna Chlumsky, Gina McKee, Steve Coogan and David Rasche. The film is a joint collaboration between BBC Films and the UK Film Council.

This is most likely the reason first time users of Twitter stop, give up and bad-mouth it. I can’t blame them after watching this.

Fresh off the “Dawkins and Co.” Advertising campaign claiming “There probably isn’t a God…”. Some Brits made some light of the entire issue without getting into anything religious but making some very good use of British Humour!
Very, very awesome.

What Arab Boys do at Shopping Malls…

This is an interesting twist for in-store marketers… The opportunities if we only had our target markets just sitting and staring at our store displays!
Can you imagine the statements after some official gets to see this picture? It won’t be that young men should control their hormones and get a clue… it’ll be that shop owners are no longer allowed to display mannequins in their underwear in the window.
I guess with the current laws in place in a heavily restrictive society, you can’t expect anything else. A trend which may arise from this… Increased internet purchases of Blow-up dolls? Rise in female clothing retail stores, owners being young men ofcourse?

Holy Marketing
I love this joke… and it drives home a great point about the true essence of marketing, knowing your audience/customer.
Two beggars are sitting side by side on a street in Rome. One has a cross in front of him; the other one the Star of David. Many people go by and look at both beggars, but only put money into the hat of the beggar sitting behind the cross. A priest comes by, stops and watches throngs of people giving money to the beggar behind the cross, but none give to the beggar behind the Star of David. Finally, the priest goes over to the beggar behind the Star of David and says, ‘My poor fellow, don’t you understand? This is a Catholic country, this city is the seat of Catholicism. People aren’t going to give you money if you sit there with a Star of David in front of you, especially when you’re sitting beside a beggar who has a cross. In fact, they would probably give to him just out of spite.’ The beggar behind the Star of David listened to the priest, turned to the other beggar with the cross and said, ‘Moishe, look who’s trying to teach the Goldstein brothers about marketing.’

This will fall under “Engrish” I suppose but it looks like it comes from Thailand… I don’t think many tourists would stop to eat at a place like this… well the normal one’s anyway.
