When I lived in London I stayed in Edgeware road opposite the Hilton hotel. It really was the most awsome place to live coz of everything you mentioned above and the people of the area were just different. Although you are in central London there are times when you dont even realise it. When I lived there I basically ate out for a whole year so there is much to be said about the variety of food available on Edgeware road.:P
