Yeah Baby! Social Media is the New PUNK ROCK!

by on June 29, 2009
in Activism, Social Media

I’ve always seen Punk as a philosophy rather than a once off bunch of noisy kids with spiked hair and bad attitudes. It was about standing up to the establishment, breaking the rules, going against the norm.  They are the ultimate modern form of talking straight back with their own interpretation of how to talk back in the first place.  Hence, the below video, is a bit misplaced with comparing punk rock only to social media… it’s bigger than that.  The philosophy, I believe, transcends all media because it addresses the underlying intentions behind WHY we communicate.

So if you question the norms, don’t agree with them and voice your opinions with any media whatsoever… you are a PUNK.  Word… Enjoy the video :)

Sneek Peak: Tim Burton’s Remake of Alice in Wonderland

by on June 25, 2009
in Uncategorized

Another one of my ‘most awaited’ remakes of all time. I remember growing up with Alice in Wonderland as a story and no doubt later recalling how that particular story had shaped my perception and shaped my life. I felt the same way when I first saw the Matrix. It had the effect of a crow-bar prying open my mind to new possibilities and opportunities. I loved it.

And here it is again… so far only a few pics of the movie have been released and the cast looks brilliant, with a few staples from the Tim Burton toolbox. Namely, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts. The nice touch is Anne Hathaway as the White Queen.

The movie is set to release on 5 March 2010.
Here’s an idea of what it’s going to look like…

Alice in the Caterpillar’s Garden

Johnny Depp – The Mad Hatter

Helena Bonham Carter – The Queen of Hearts

Anne Hathaway – The White Queen

I remember posting before on Sarah Michelle Gellar working on creating the movie version of that AWESOME game, American McGee’s Alice. I don’t
know when that will be released, but one at a time… right now I’m looking forward to Tim Burton’s recreation. I wonder who’s playing Alice???

Pink Stones

by on June 24, 2009
in Uncategorized

It was 4 carats. It was a pink stone. It had been catalogued in the collections of four generations of Scandinavian royalty. It was gone. The only clue was the Zulu spear.

It was then that Joey thought that maybe, just maybe, a Zulu warrior had actually infiltrated the fort-knox which was the local jewellery store and stole the pink stone from the unsuspecting owners. ‘Naah, it couldn’t be that…’ he told himself. ‘The owners did it!’ he screamed. ‘He was on holiday in Africa a week ago and he planted this damn spear to make us think a Zulu warrior had stole it!’ Three months later Joey was in a mental hospital… and nobody ever found out why he was shouting at the little pink sweets at the candy store… the ones next to the spear shaped jellies.

The trailer for the new TV movie – ‘Battlestar Galactica: The Plan’ chronicling the battle between the Humans and the Cylons, this time from the viewpoint of the Cylons. I assume it would be summarised seeing as the human side was told across five seasons and this new movie is only two hours long. But check out the Trailer below… it looks AWESOME.

Can’t wait for this one to come out!  Tarantino is back in the habit with this long-awaited World War II flick about a group of soldiers who’s only business is “Killin’ Nazi’s”.  The trailer already makes it look pretty damn cool.

“We’re in the Bid’ness of Killin’ Nazi’s, and baby… Bid’ness izza Boomin’!” – Brad Pitt

Here’s more insight from Amanda Palmer from “The Fabulous Picture Show” on Al Jazeera talking live from Cannes.

The Tale of How…

Here’s an awesome short Film done by a group of very creative South African’s calling themselves the Blackheart Gang.  It’s a very cool story about an island of Kiwi’s who keep getting eaten by a huge octopus that doesn’t allow them to live in peace or leave the island until one of them gets an idea to put messages in a  bottle and throw them into the ocean…

How Israeli’s are ‘Helping’ Iran

by on June 18, 2009
in Activism

Everyone knows that Israel is most definitely NOT a friend of Iran in any way or form.  Given the current circumstances in the country and the media coverage around Iran and Election, in our information age, it goes without say that there would be spin from either side regarding the coverage.

Case in point, from a social media perspective, is the website helpiranelection.com On the website it shows the man behind it all to be “Arik Fraimovich, friendly web-geek.”

and.. here’s the guy’s personal website

Notice… Israeli Military Consultant… You can’t tell me this doesn’t tarnish the intentions behindthe websites intent on helping the Iranian people. This also makes me question all of the media surrounding this issue. This post is not about standing behind any particular side but it is an attempt to get people to look a bit deeper and bit further than what we get force-fed over News websites and TV journalism.

WE seem to slip back into complacency a lot when we see a lot of our friends following a trend on Twitter or wherever, and quell the urge to question the nature behind the source of all the information.

It’s not a great place to be when people’s rights are curtailed for the benefit of the few, but the lines which are drawn are far from black and white. The shades of grey behind the so-called good intentions of some people need to be made a bit clearer. Because, unfortunately, the one’s with the worst intentions know how to play the system and the shades of grey tend to spiral more toward darkness.

All I’m asking is that you question… question everything, don’t blindly believe.

UK Government plan to tax Broadband, WTF!

by on June 17, 2009
in Uncategorized

“The UK Government is planning a 50p-per-month levy on fixed-line connections to pay for next-generation broadband. The Government claims that market forces alone will bring fiber connections to only two thirds of the country, so it plans to use the ‘broadband tax’ to pay for the final third by 2017. The plans form part of the Government’s Digital Britain report, which also see the UK guarantee connections of 2Mbits/sec for every citizen by 2012.”

The report also threatens legal action and bandwidth restriction for repeat file sharers.
(via Slashdot)

This is Bloody ridiculous! What is it with governments and the need to tax everything they can. Pretty soon I’m expecting them to instil a Sunrise Tax when summer comes in. Maybe Tax you from when you’re born for how much air you might breathe in your lifetime.

With the entire scandal of MP’s very blatantly misusing Taxpayers money to fund their second homes and claim ridiculous expenses (even £5 charity donations). This new initiative is a real kick in the arse. If they used the budget they have properly they could not and should not be asking for more money from us. All it looks like is that these greedy bastards are too lazy to set up a and manage their own budgets properly and so when the shit hits the fan they just up the taxes some more to offset all the shit they’ve caused.

Bastards.

Stealing Second Base

by on June 17, 2009
in Life

“Progress always involves risks. You can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.” – Frederick Wilcox

This is an aspect of all initiatives to move forward. You can’t get ahead if you’re still stuck where you are. You can’t expect anything different or better if you keep doing what you’re doing. First step of the change is to recognise where you are and make significant changes, either the environment you find yourself in, or the people that surround you, the habits you have, the things you keep on doing. Recognise it and change it.

It’s not easy and it is a challenge. That’s the point. If you’re comfortable, that’s when you should be worried. That’s when you get hit out of the blue with the unexpected. If you don’t wake up yourself to the reality that things keep changing and you need to change with them, Life will Smack you upside your head and then you’ll be forced to change, which is even harder then if you chose the path yourself.

Ready? Go.

I’m Tired…

by on June 16, 2009
in Uncategorized

I’m tired of this writers block… It’s like a catch-22 where I can’t think of anything good to write, so I don’t… but if I don’t put anything down then how will I know if it’s good or not? I’ve always said that writing about writer’s block is a cop-out but now I’m not so sure. Nobody knows where it comes from it’s just that sometimes you hit a wall.

Well it’s starting here. I’m tearing down the wall. Brick by brick, letter by letter. The stories will be written, the words will flow and all of these damn thoughts in my head will pour onto paper (or screen) and I will say what I have to say just as I always have. I know I’ve always had a bad relationship with grammar but so what, I’ll edit after the ideas are out there. I will sit and pick apart what I’ve written when I’ve actually written something. Not doing anything is not only idiot it’s insane. How can anyone expect motion without no initial force being applied?

So the last two paragraphs are like a brain massage. Re-training to shift thought to action. No more Cop-out videos with no words, the words are the tool. The videos and pictures are merely supplementary, they are NOT the real thing. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but one string of words can paint a multitude of pictures. No contest.

Let this be the mission statement.

Right… so now what should I write about?
