Sex and Islam…

by on July 30, 2007
in Islam

Frank talk from Muslim sex therapist Cairo-based Heba Kotb tackles sensitive issues within the framework of Islam.

Jeffrey Fleishman (Los Angeles Times)

In the delicate realm where the Koran meets human desire, Heba Kotb, a Muslim sex therapist in a ruffled gold head scarf, has strong opinions on vibrators, foreplay, premature you-know-what and why more men can’t seem to locate the G-spot…

‘Everyone is searching for better sex, but people aren’t having the best sex. Sex within Islam is the best. It covers the man’s rights and the woman’s rights. Islam is the ultimate sexuality.’
— Heba Kotb, sex therapist in Cairo who has a late-night satellite TV show

An Inconvenient Truth and The Day of Judgment

by on July 23, 2007
in Islam, Life

I was watching the documentary and an interesting thought came to mind… In Islam, we were thought that, amongst other signs, two things would occur on the Day of Judgment:

1) All the people would be gathered on “Arafat” to be judged. – The plains of Arafat are in Saudi Arabia and the place is one of the spots which is included in the rituals of Hajj. It is also the place where the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) gave his last sermon.

Anyway, I have always thought that logically, it would be physically impossible for the whole of creation from past times to now to fit on such a small area. But with the continental drift, and the continents either moving further apart or closer together… if it is closer together, then it would make sense that “Arafat” could be figuratively implying one large landmass in which everyone will be gathered.

Secondly, with Global Warming being what it is at the moment, then the water level will rise and people will be drawn closer inland from the coastal areas, and there will be less land to live on.  So people will be living even closer together on a smaller amount of land.  Again supporting the theory that everyone will be “gathered” at a single place.

2) It will be so hot that people will feel like the sun is right over their heads.  - From “An Inconvenient Truth”, it showed that the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere is getting pretty high, which in turn means that more heat is getting trapped on the Earth, which means It’s Getting Hotter!

So again… implying that it will be so hot that people will feel as if the sun is right over their heads.

Hmmm…  if this is true and Global Warming is a pre-cursor to the Day of Judgment, I think it’s a little too close for comfort.

Peace,

M.

90 Minutes for Mandela

The game last night between the Africa 11 and the World 11 was pretty good. I mean it had its boring moments like most other soccer matches, but over all it was pretty engaging. The score ended up 3-3, and the level of play was brilliant.

I found it funny though that as soon as the match ended, spectators flooded the field to get near the the stars on the pitch… All you could see after while was people dodging security guards and running and shaking hands with players… and it wasn’t like 2 or 3 people it was more like 20 to 30 people.

What I most admired about the match though was the dignity and behaviour of the players.  All of them were smiling and even after a few fouls that took place on the pitch, they shook hands and slapped each other on the back knowing it wasn’t intended.  I really admired that.  I wish the World cup Players were watching and took notice of this, since the general trend in the World cup with players is to feign injury and cause all other nonsense, in order to get an edge in a game.

I guess the context and the age of the players played a major role in this match though.  you can’t expect the same from younger players with less experience and more ambition to get to the top.  Fame Corrupts.

Peace,

M.

Taqwacore: Rise of the Muslim Punk

by on July 17, 2007
in Uncategorized

Came across this at Kim Badawi’s homepage. She chronicles this phenomenon of an Islamic Punk Band and a genre called Taqwacore.

Just like everything in the United States… Muslim Punks do exist in the United States! American Muslims, who do aspire to defeat the stereotype and challenge freedom to expression as a true Americans, as well as Muslims… Taqwacore, a genre of Muslim punk rock, existing only in the novel at the time of its writing, has since emerged as an actual genre, inspiring bands across North America. – Kim Badawi

The below is from Wikipedia.

Taqwacore is a genre of punk music dealing with Islam and its culture, originally conceived in Michael Muhammad Knight‘s novel, The Taqwacores. The name is a portmanteau of hardcoreArabic word Taqwa,
which is usually translated as “piety” or the quality of being “God-fearing”, and thus roughly denotes fear and love of the divine.
and the The first bands to use the term taqwacore are The Kominas, 8-bit and Vote Hezbollah.[citation needed]

There is not a definitive “taqwacore sound,” as artists incorporate various styles, ranging from punk to hip-hop, and musical traditions from the Muslim world; the Kominas (shown in the above picture) describe their sound as “Bollywood punk” while Al-Thawra uses the term “raicore,” based on Arabic rai music.[citation needed]

Very interesting indeed.

The Best Thing Out of Durban Since The Poison…

by on July 16, 2007
in Uncategorized

What: “Big Idea”, Live.
When: Friday Night, 13th July 2007.
Where: Kwasuka Theatre on Stamfordhill Road, Morningside, Durban.

Big Idea is a Durban based hip-hop group, something akin to the Roots, but purely South African. Rocking Durban Slang, they have three vocalists, a DJ, A Drummer, A sampler and a Bass Guitarist. The music sounds like a real hip-hop concert with a smooth jazz finish. The lyrics are specifically tailored to a Durban, South African Audience. There isn’t any tinge of a US Accent as these guys break it down talking about bunny chows, being chased by the Kerels, etc. etc.

Other acts which were show cased at the concert was “Ewok”, the Durban based MC, who’s the only white rapper I know who sounds as delightfully commercial as Eminem and Bubba Sparxx, but whose lyrics show a level of knowledge and lyrical ineptness far above that of any South African (or White American) rapper I’ve ever heard. Another new hip-hopper which was showcased was Black Moss who did a really cool track called “Let me take you back to the old School”, infectious and as fuckin’ engaging as a performance can get. Ewok and Black Moss did do a couple of sets together which got every seat empty as the crowd rushed to the front of the stage.

Big Idea has released an album called “Hot Box”, which you can get at the bands record label, Ruffinery Records. Since they covered a couple of new tracks at the concert, you can expect a new album to be released some time soon. Ewok, who was previously with a band called “Illuminating Shadows” will finally be releasing his solo album on September 14th 2007, Venue not confirmed but check out Ruffinery Records for any updates.

Die Hard Rocks!

Live Free or Die Hard (aka Die Hard 4.0). What an awesome action movie… I haven’t had that much fun since Bad Boys 2.

Bruce Willis is the most hardcore old-man action figure there is.  I don’t think he’ll be making another one though :P
