Neuromancer Movie?
by Muhammad on May 21, 2007

William Gibson has commented on the latest rumor of a Neuromancer film:
Myself, I’ll be willing to entertain the idea that Neuromancer is
really “headed for the big screen” when I’m watching it being shotAs the old saying goes, I’ll believe it when I see it.
I *do* believe, though, that Peter Weir will not be going
forward with Pattern Recognition. That is one utterly solid little
factoid of film news, alas.I no longer get very wrought up over the liminals, myself,
except to be annoyed by people who seem to assume that feature films
are the ultimate stage of novelistic creation, thereby relegating the
book to the status of dull gray chrysalis.
It’s that last graft that got me between the eyes.
Books, by and large, don’t make very good movies (how many great film
adaptations of novels can you think of that were true to the original
that were worth seeing? How many total, utter disappointments can you
recall?) Yet people who meet novelists inevitably ask, “anything of
yours been made into a movie yet?”

Bulls Vs. Sharks
vs.
Okay I couldn’t get better pictures :P But the Blue Bulls Kicked Ass. I was disappointed with the Sharks at the end of the match because, as soon as thay scored what was suppoed to be the last try of the match to make it 19-13 to the Sharks, they totally lost it, they missed their conversion and started slacking off, becasue they thought the match was over. The match is only over when the whistle goes… which is Why the Bulls rampaged through, scored a try and converted to make it 20-19 with the Sharks trailing dust in the wake of the Bulls mighty thrust to the end (I’ll make good sports commentator, eh?).
Moral of the Story: It ain’t over till the Fat Man blows the whistle.
Go Bulls! Woohoo!
Peace,
M.

thinking of ways we can properly communicate “Seduction” and its relation to
beauty in a feminine context.
So I’m gonna be cutting up fashion magazines, making collages, talking about topics like femininity and how seduction contributes to beauty, etc. etc.

Humour for Coders

For the more geekly-inclined of you out there, some programmer humor from SysProg.net
It should be noted that no ethically-trained software engineer would ever consent to write a DestroyBaghdad procedure. Basic professional ethics would instead require him to write a DestroyCity procedure, to which Baghdad could be given as a parameter. (Nathaniel S Borenstein)
Should array indices start at 0 or 1? My compromise of 0.5 was rejected without, I thought, proper consideration. (Stan Kelly-Bootle)
The object-oriented model makes it easy to build up programs by accretion. What this often means, in practice, is that it provides a structured way to write spaghetti code. (Paul Graham)
Software is like sex: It’s better when it’s free. (Linus Torvalds)
If you get the first three, you probably spend far too much time coding…

How to be a Pirate.

An excellent how-to guide for beginner pirates. Yo Ho, Yo Ho! a Pirates life for me …
“Piracy†happens, piracy will never go away, and, as a service to you we’ve decided to explain some of its relevant points to the uninitiated. Whatever your stance on the topic, if you’re reading this, you don’t understand it and want to learn more and if you’re not reading it you already have terabytes of “H0T WAR3Z†on your hard drives anyway. Call it illegal, call it an act of rebellion, call it what you will. Our goal in “Help Key†is to help our audience understand complex topics and piracy, to say the least, is a complex topic. – John Biggs
Piracy is an action sport. The ability to infringe copyright and steal valuable work induces a rush like no other. Whether you steal music, movies, books, applications, or whatever, it feels like breaking the law and it saves our wallets and purses from becoming empty. But not everyone is as fortunate as we are to know the ins and outs of the world of piracy. There’s so much to take in and only so much time for us to Google around for the answers to our questions. Luckily, you have a master pirate on deck to help you with understanding the basics that will get you downloading Spiderman 3 in no time.
For this Help Key, I’m going to break it down into a few separate sections. This will allow you to skip to the section relevant to you and will also allow us to discuss topics in an organized matter. Ok. Computer on? Let’s get started.

The Shape of the Future
Last week, Sci-Fi writer Charlie Stross was invited to speak at a technology open day at engineering consultancy TNG Technology Consulting in Munich. He’s posted a transcript of his discussion on his website, which features a fascinating analysis of where technology is going in the next 10-25 years. Instead of visioning outlandish future developments, he looks at what the impact might be on society from very reasonable iterations of today’s SOTA. “10Tb is an interesting number. That’s a megabit for every second in a year — there are roughly 10 million seconds per year. That’s enough to store a live DivX video stream — compressed a lot relative to a DVD, but the same overall resolution — of everything I look at for a year, including time I spend sleeping, or in the bathroom. Realistically, with multiplexing, it puts three or four video channels and a sound channel and other telemetry — a heart monitor, say, a running GPS/Galileo location signal, everything I type and every mouse event I send — onto that chip, while I’m awake … Add optical character recognition on the fly for any text you look at, speech-to-text for anything you say, and it’s all indexed and searchable. ‘What was the title of the book I looked at and wanted to remember last Thursday at 3pm?’ Think of it as google for real life. “

U.K. Music Label Creates a Vinyl-MP3 Hybrid
While the copyright fight rages between big record companies and their
customers, some smaller, independent labels are moving in with
innovation instead of litigation.
