That Feeling.

You know… that feeling… when you just know something’s wrong and you know what it is but it’s more of a process rather than an event.. and you’re just waiting for things to happen. For things to get sorted out. For some closure. But you don’t know what lies at the end and it might be the hardest choice you ever have to make.
All I feel is this dread, this heavy cloud floating above me. Just waiting to rain down at any given moment. And the thing about the situation is that it just has to be. Change has to occur. Some shit just can’t go on unchecked. Unless you’re okay with living your life the way it is. Something big, something critical needs to occur. Change habits, change the way things are done. Your entire comfort zone needs to be shaken to shit to wake you up.
It sucks being in this position but its a situation that just has to be. Otherwise things could be worse.

Heard of Kwantu Game Reserve in the
Eastern Cape? Its being marketed as the first 100% Muslim Game Reserve. What does that mean?
- The lions are walking around looking for buck.
“Hey,†says Simba to his Mufasa, “theres some lekker buck over there.â€
Mufasa: ‘Are those things even Halaal!’
Simba: “Yes Boss, check I got a ICSA certificate!â€
Mufasa: ‘Sorry Dude, I only chow Sanha stuff!’
- The German tourists are being taken on a game drive.
“Where iz all zee animals?â€
The ranger: ‘Eish, sorreee… De animals is all gone now. You see. Today it is Friday. They will come back later.’
- Apparently the female animals are only allowed to go out with their male siblings. And the orthodox animals don’t allow their females out alone at all!

Save Pandora!
by Muhammad on April 19, 2007

Just got this mail from Tim at Pandora.com, the internet radio site that aggregates new music based on your own music tastes… It seems the Copyright Giants want to continue thair unfair crackdown on sharing of information and also limiting the Internet’s potential. Here’s the mail below…
Hi, it’s Tim from Pandora,
I’m writing today to ask for your help. The survival of Pandora and all of Internet radio is in jeopardy because of a recent decision by the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington, DC to almost triple the licensing fees for Internet radio sites like Pandora. The new royalty rates are irrationally high, more than four times what satellite radio pays, and broadcast radio doesn’t pay these at all. Left unchanged, these new royalties will kill every Internet radio site, including Pandora.
In response to these new and unfair fees, we have formed the SaveNetRadio Coalition, a group that includes listeners, artists, labels and webcasters. I hope that you will consider joining us.
Please sign our petition urging your Congressional representative to act to save Internet radio: http://capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/issues/alert/?alertid=9631541
Please feel free to forward this link/email to your friends – the more petitioners we can get, the better.
Understand that we are fully supportive of paying royalties to the artists whose music we play, and have done so since our inception. As a former touring musician myself, I’m no stranger to the challenges facing working musicians. The issue we have with the recent ruling is that it puts the cost of streaming far out of the range of ANY webcaster’s business potential.
I hope you’ll take just a few minutes to sign our petition – it WILL make a difference. As a young industry, we do not have the lobbying power of the RIAA. You, our listeners, are by far our biggest and most influential allies.
As always, and now more than ever, thank you for your support.

Cheap Customised Cellphones?
by Muhammad on April 16, 2007
in Uncategorized

ModeLabs,a company based in France produces custom made phones and have done so recently for select companies. They are now thinking of producing custom made cellphones en-masse as they see a definite demand for it. They have been in the news recently for producing eco-friendly phones which self-charge! So bye-bye Nokia, Sony-Ericsson and Motorola… the game just got stepped up :P
“Among the custom phones is one made by ModeLabs, a company based in France, for the Elite modeling agency. It is shaped like a woman’s compact mirror. ModeLabs makes another for MTV Networks France with built-in functions to ease access to the company’s shows and a large, touch-activated screen that has a wide landscape, the better to view MTV shows.”

Makkah: Sacred vs. Profane

A Starbucks at the Abraj Al Bait Shopping Center in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The mall is being built directly across from Islam’s holiest site. (Tamara Abdul Hadi for The New York Times)
I came across this article in the International Herald Tribune which highlights Saudi Arabia’s $13 billion development plan for Makkah and how it is going to affect the sanctuary of Islam’s holiest city.
Now as they gaze here in their mind’s eye, and make the pilgrimage clothed in simple white cotton wraps, they will see something other than the austere black cube known as the Kaaba that occupies the spot. They will also see Starbucks. And Cartier and Tiffany. And H&M and Topshop.
The Abraj Al Bait Shopping Center, one of the largest malls to open in Saudi Arabia, outfitted with flat-panel monitors, neon lights, an amusement park ride, fast-food restaurants and a lingerie shop, is being built directly across from Islam’s holiest site.

Word: Generational Congestion
The phrase generational congestion refers to the fact that people are no longer acting their age. Adults are behaving like children while Teens and Tweens are growing up faster than ever. As a result we have people aged from three different generations enjoying the same food, music, clothing, brands and experiences.

SA Free Culture Tour!
Wednesday 18 April – Friday 20 April 2007
Wikipedia Founder, Jimmy Wales and Creative Commons CEO, Larry Lessig will be in South Africa for a host of festivities to celebrate digital freedom in the country. Speaking at a number of events in Cape Town, Wales and Lessig will be encouraging local support of institutions like iCommons, the University of the Western Cape, the University of Cape Town and the Internet Society of South Africa in their efforts towards developing a culture of freedom on the local internet.
Awesome, eh? Check out the full schedule of events at iCommons.org.
And just to brag a bit, I had supper with Lawrence Lessig (CC) and Ethan Zuckerman (Global Voices) while I was in Doha, blogging Al-Jazeera’s 3rd Annual Media Forum. Honestly, these guys were next level when it comes to the thinking of Where the Internet is and where it’s headed, especially in terms of the evolution of Ideas and Culture in the New Media era. Wow.

Left to Right: Me, Lawrence and Ethan. It was at this eclectic Lebanese restaurant, called Assaha, if you’re in Doha, I recommend it!
