After watching Clerks II, which wasn’t as good as Clerks I, but still was a lot of fun… I like the debate about LOTR vs. Star Wars. Which is why I started the little poll to the right of the blog :P As of this moment, Star Wars is winning. Anyhow, the debate takes a step ahead of the internal Star Wars debate which was in Clerks I.

Either way, for a movie like Clerks II you need to sit back, relax and take your critic hat off and just enjoy it, otherwise you get all grumpy and idiotic when you think too much watching a movie which was meant to be enjoyed instead of thought about. Sometimes you just want to enjoy a movie and not have to think if the directing was good, if the acting was right, if the actors were spot on or poor.

Back to the topic… I’m torn between the two… Star Wars was a brilliant set of Sci-fi cinema, LOTR was the best fantasy book I’ve read, right up there with Battlefield Earth (They really, really messed up the movie but the book was brilliant!) I have to say though I like LOTR the book better than I like the movie… so the kudos goes to Star Wars for this one. Sorry Legolas, Gimli, Frodo and gang… but Obi-Wan and R2D2 trumped you this time.

Peace,

M.

From what I’ve gathered about you from the Frontline, I can safely say that you’re an all for human rights type person. So please tell me how can you torture my soul to such an extent where you ask me to choose between Star Wars and LOTR?! Admittedly though, I did enjoy the original LucasFest trilogy more than the in the distant future a few years ago trilogy.

    Exactly my predicament…
dude how could you do this to us?
We from the genration of Star War movies and LOTR Books…and i must say the LOTR movies did them justice…
    Argh PAIN TORTURE

  3. Muhammad Says:

I disagree that the LOTR movies did them justice, I agree, they were GOOD, but a lot of parts I liked as well were missing. But, my brother just told me he’s got teh extended versions of all three movies something like 4 hours each!

It’s a predicament, but a good one eh? It’s like the Elvis vs. Beatles Debate… you can like both of them, but in the end you have to choose ONE. Sounds terribly like the LOTR plotline :P

    Keep at it!
May the force be with you!

lol I agree it is a terrible decision. But its a bit unfair. Star Wars was written for the movies! and comparing the original trilogy to LOTR (even though the movie did not do it justices), I would choose LOTR. However considering all 6 movies of Star Wars there is no comparison. The order it was realised and the Final Installment was just brilliant I get goosebumps thinking about it!! lol Yes I am a sci-fi / fantasy freak!

Was this ever a contest? LOTR hands down – star wars fan boy, have nothing but nostalgia to keep them going, whereas LOTR is a much more universal movie. Lets not forget – you have to take the good with the bad when you are comparing – and by the bad, can you get any worse than Jar Jar?
One ring to rule them all!

  6. Zahira Says:

oi I know that the movies left out lots from the book…hey i’m an obsessed book fan, but the the extended version does have some to almost everything and i still can’t choose *sigh*
My precious or the force hmmmm

  7. Muhammad Says:

Even so. Jedi’s Rock, although Strider would give the ma good run for their money. But he doesn’t have the FORCE. He’s got some stubble and a sword and tracks hobbit by looking at their droppings. Okay okay, I’m not being fair, My heart is torn as well. But damn man, Jedi’s Rock!

    hehehe.

We could always be shallow and go on looks.

Yoda rocks, but he’s short, green and not very sexy.

“Aragorn son of Arathorn and (he is)called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dunadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil’s son of Gondor.” hmmmm now he was hmmm *raises eyebrow* ;)

Although…when Anakin was all grown up…

decisions, decisions…most cruel Mr Karim, most cruel :)

In a fight, obviously any Jedi or Sith would destroy Elessar, Probably Would Destroy Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Theoden, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Eomer, Eowyn, Saruman they would all lose. There is no question that LOTR would get destroyed in a fight because of the force and their agility. The only person/ Twisted Servent of Melkor that would win would be Sauron and that would be a good fight, Sauron vs Yoda but if Isildur could kill Sauron in one swing of Narsil, that a Jedi or Sith could destroy him. But I LOVE LOTR, SOOO Much better then Star Wars. I like Star Wars, its one of my favs. but I am obsessed with LOTR. LOTR is a Better Series and I think better then Star Wars

  10. Muhammad Says:

I disagree, I think Gandalf could hold his own against sith or Jedi… although… I have no idea why the good guys like Gandalf would fight Jedi.. I’d bet more on Sith… and he would win. The basic premise of having hobbits in LOTR is to clarify the fact that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover… the hobbits seem harmless and non-aggressive but are the heroes of LOTR. :) I love both series as well :) Awesome philosophy.
